How much does a website cost in Jersey?
Short answer: a bespoke website for a Jersey small business costs from £1,200 for up to five pages, and from £2,900 for a full business site. An online shop starts at £5,000.
Those are my own prices, published in full, which is unusual in this trade. Island business owners keep telling me they can't get a straight number out of anyone. This page explains what you should expect to pay, what pushes the price up, and when you're better off not hiring anyone at all.
What each kind of website costs
Your shop window online — up to 5 pages
from £1,200
Full business site — blog, SEO and integrations baked in
from £2,900
E-commerce — products, cart, checkout, payments
from £5,000
Custom web application — logins, dashboards, your logic
from £8,500
Every project is one fixed price, agreed in writing before work starts. What's included in each is on the full pricing page.
What pushes the price up
- What the site has to do. A site that tells people who you are and how to get in touch is the cheapest kind. Taking bookings, selling products or letting customers log in each adds real work.
- How many pages, and how custom. Five pages from a clear brief is a very different job from fifteen pages with bespoke illustration.
- Connections to other systems. Payments, your accounting package, a CRM or a booking tool each need building and testing.
- Who writes the words and takes the photos. If you supply them, the price stays down. If they need producing, that's extra time.
What it costs to run afterwards
The build is a one-off. After that you pay for a domain name and hosting. On sites I build, both are passed on at cost and itemised, with no markup.
Every package includes free fixes after launch. After that, you can pay per fix, take a monthly retainer, or just email me when something needs changing. Most clients do the last.
Your three options, honestly
1. Build it yourself on a website builder
Wix, Squarespace and the like cost a monthly subscription plus your evenings. For a brand-new business testing an idea, this is often the right answer, and I'll tell you so if we talk. It stops being the cheap option when the site looks like everyone else's, can't do what you need, or eats time you should spend on customers.
2. Hire an agency
You get a team, and you pay for the team, the office and the account manager. Worth it for large organisations with large, ongoing needs. For a small business, a lot of the price is overhead rather than website.
3. Hire a local independent developer
One person designs and builds the whole thing, so you talk to whoever is writing the code. That's what I do, from St Ouen. Fewer overheads means a lower price for the same quality, and being on the island means we can sit down over a coffee.
What that money buys: a Jersey example
The Jersey Beach app was built here, end to end, by one developer: tide times, the Met Office forecast and a ranking of every beach against the day's wind. It's rated 4.96 on the App Store. See more work.
Website costs in Jersey: FAQs
How much does a small business website cost in Jersey?
A bespoke small-business website of up to five pages starts at £1,200. A fuller business site with a blog, SEO work and integrations starts at £2,900. Both are fixed prices agreed in writing before work starts.
Why won't most web designers tell me a price?
Because scope genuinely varies, and an hourly or 'it depends' quote protects the designer if the job grows. The fair way round that is a published starting price plus a fixed quote once the scope is clear, so the risk of the job growing sits with the developer, not you.
What does a website cost to run each year?
You'll pay for the domain name and hosting. On sites I build, both are passed on at cost and itemised, with no markup. Changes after the free-fix period can be paid per fix, on a monthly retainer, or simply by emailing me when something comes up.
Is a website builder like Wix or Squarespace cheaper?
Usually, at first. You pay a monthly subscription and do the work yourself. That's the right call for plenty of new businesses. It stops being cheaper when your time, a template that looks like everyone else's, or features the builder can't do start costing you customers.
How long does a website take?
A small-business site typically takes 2-3 weeks, a full business site 4-6 weeks, and an online shop 5-7 weeks. You get the timeline in writing with your quote.
